Going under the moniker Avid Dancer, Jacob Dillan Summers has been one of the more talked about figures to emerge from LA's scene as of late. While his contemporaries have already digested their influences, Summers is still very much in the process of discovering, having grown up in a household where secular music was forbidden. He seems to revel in creating alchemical blends of genres equal parts glam, pop, psych, disco and pure rock and roll. Nowhere is this more is evident than in the tracks found on his debut EP, "I Want To See You Dance," available now on Grand Jury.
There's a playfulness, a joy and something reassuringly familiar about Summers' tunes, as if they were wrung from some collective nostalgic daydream. He made a lot of noise last year when "Stop Playing With My Heart" began to seed out to various outlets and tastemakers. The track is almost startling in its confidence, even more so when you consider it was his first ever release of any kind.
Summers continues to whet our appetite for a full release with his debut EP. Featuring four tracks, including the title cut and "Stop Playing With My Heart" along with a pair of demos, the EP offers us a glimpse of what's to come and boy does it ever sound promising.
Be sure to check out Summers live for yourself when he stops by Santa Ana's The Observatory on Tuesday, November 18 opening for local boys Cold War Kids. Tickets are available through Ticketweb. This is sure to be a killer show all around and comes highly recommended, don't miss it!
