Sunflower Bean, The Paranoyds and Iris at The Constellation Room - 6.26.16

Few bands have garnered the amazing cult fandom that New York's Sunflower Bean has engendered in the very brief time since emerging onto the scene and it's hard to argue that such a devoted following hasn't been earned. Comprised of guitarist Nick Kivlen, drummer Jacob Faber and bassist Julia Cumming, The three piece tore into the OC crowd on Sunday, June 26 with wreckless abandon and distorted beauty.

I had first come across the band during their set at last year's Beach Goth fest with a performance that left an impression on myself and I'm certain on most others gathered in the room as well. Seeing the band perform together on this night, however, was like being treated to a main course after getting a small sampler almost a year ago. Sunflower Bean is the real deal. Here's a rock band in the purest sense, a group unaffraid to embrace their genre and uninhibited to explore its divergent paths, from glam rock to grunge and creating something very contemporary in the process.

Check out my photos from the night, also featuring openers The Paranoyds and Iris, below and for more on Sunflower Bean be sure to follow @Sunflower_Bean and like Sunflower Bean on Facebook.
