LA's Pehrspace has been a home to the weird and off beat for the past decade, carving out a niche for itself as a breeding ground for emerging talent. As the art space in its current incarnation heads for an impending sunset in the face of ever encroaching gentrification, the venue continues to be a focal point for adventurous Angelenos on the look out for something new.
Baltimore's Outer Spaces stopped by the venue on Friday, June 10th as part of a tour of the US in support of their debut release, "A Shedding Snake" (available now via Don Giovanni Records). Their performance that night was one of those treasured moments I long for as a journalist. So taken was I with the band that I often found myself just enjoying the music rather than focus on documenting the night. The sound Outer Spaces makes meets at the intersection of earnestness and bittersweet longing, driven by Cara Beth Satalino's inviting vocals and the moment they kicked into "I Saw You," the opening track off their debut, I knew I was witnessing something special.
