Mutual Benefit, Florist and Birdy Bardot at The Casbah - 6.11.16

words + photos by Joe Cortez

Mutual Benefit, the musical outfit created by multi-instrumentalist Jordan Lee, made a rare west coast appearance at San Diego's Casbah on Saturday night, June 11 in support of his most recent release, "Skip a Sinking Stone" (available now via Transgressive Records). The momentous night was not lost on local fans as the venue contained a tangible buzz throughout the night, leading up to Lee's set.

It should come as no surprise to longtime listeners that Jordan Lee is as diverse and restless on stage as he is in studio. Backed by an ever changing line up, Lee and company always seem to be on the verge of discovery yet constantly assured of what they were creating. Between songs, Lee was shy and charming, seeming genuinely appreciative of the crowd gathered, a reaction that served only to endear him further to the audience.

Check out my photos from the night, also featuring openers Birdy Bardot and Florist,  below. For more on Mutual Benefit, be sure to visit mutualbenef.it and follow @mutual_benefit on Twitter.
