Steve Gunn, Nap Eyes and The Whiskey Circle at The Soda Bar - 10.1.16

words + photos by Joe Cortez

Currently on tour in suppprt of his latest album on Matador Records, "Eyes on the Lines" (available now), singer/songwriter Steve Gunn stopped by San Diego's Soda Bar on Saturday night, October 1st for a searing and moody set of tunes.

The saloon-like nature of SD's quaint music venue lent to the proceedings a rustic and earnest feeling that only heightened the evening. Gunn's music is rooted in the tradition of classic American songwriters. His is a singular voice that explores genres as varied as jazz, folk and country, never settling down in one fixed genre. It's impossible to peg Gunn down as one particular artist or another and that's part of the joy inherent in his music.

Check out my photos from the night, also featuring openers Nap Eyes and The Whiskey Circle, below. For more on Steve Gunn be sure to visit steve-gunn.com and follow @stevegunnmusic on Twitter.
