LVL UP, Basement, Whirr, Better Off and Movements at The Observatory - 8.3.15

words + photos by Joe Cortez

Nestled in between a packed night that included sets from local heroes Movements, Nashville's Better Off, Whirr and UK headliners Basement, New York's purveyors of lo-fi LVL UP eviscerated the Observatory crowd in Santa Ana on Monday night with a raucous set featuring tracks off the band's two released long players, including stuff from the band's 2014 sophomore release "Hoodwink'd" (available now via Double Double Whammy and Exploding in Sound Records) and recently released three song EP entitled (appropriately enough) "Three Songs" (available now via Double Double Whammy and Run For Cover Records).

There's an infectious and inherent cheerfulness that permeates LVL UP's sound that no manner of distortion and reverb can fully mask and it was something I couldn't get enough of following their live set. Be sure to check out my photos from Monday night below and for more on LVL UP be sure to visit lvlup.bandcamp.com and follow @lvlupband on Twitter.
