San Diego's Soda Bar played host to London's Ultimate Painting on Wednesday night for the first of four California dates this past week. The duo of Jack Cooper and James Hoare made their bones playing in two of the most talked about indie bands to come out of the current English music scene, (Mazes and Veronica Falls respectively) meeting over a shared passion for the pop sounds of the 60's.
Ultimate Painting delivered a more impassioned set than I was expecting given the band's mellow sounds on their first two albums, closing out with a vicious jam. Be sure to check out my photos from Wednesday night, also featuring openers The Lulls and Dream Boys, below.
Currently on tour in support of their latest release, "Green Lanes," (available now via Trouble in Mind Records) Ultimate Painting has additional dates in the US before resuming their tour in Europe for the remainder of the year. For dates and tickets be sure to visit ultimatepainting.tumblr.com and follow @ult_painting on Twitter.
